Good camera for FPV
« on: August 21, 2010, 09:36:44 AM »
My Sony CCD camera is a little blurry. Is there a good FPV camera that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I don't need to store any data on the camera, just transmit the signal to the ground.

I'm pretty happy with Sony SN777. You can get the same camera for cheaper from 123SecurityProducts, do you need 12V or 5V? Alot of guys are having good results with cheaper board cameras, that is what I'm going to try next for $25 it's worth a shot.
I just love this forum!

Anyone tried the $25 "ccd killer"? Granted it is cmos so if it gets a lot of vibration it could become useless.

Some dumbass forgot to focus his camera :(  It looks a lot better when focused. At 550 lines it's still a little "grainy" though. Can we get more resolution for under $200?

Check out the one Ziggy offers in the shop. I believe there is a video of it in action. I haven't yet had the opportunity to try mine but we are getting close.

That one looks about the same as my KX-191H.

I would imagine that a lot of these cameras are housed in the same enclosure. The box on mine says SC-809 but who knows what that number refers too.

After several flights I think I need a zoom camera if I want to see anything on the ground. The CCD camera may be OK for FPV but not for shooting video. What are you guys using for that?

Here's my solution...

You can also wire up the GoPro for a live video feed as well as recording, soon as I can get the necessary bits to make in interface cable I'll give that a shot. Would be really nice to have the exact same view as the camera that is capturing HD video, even though the downlink will not be HD. The smaller lipo is the power source for FPV cam and TX.

What cell count and what mah is your TX/fpv battery?

I have a 2s 800mah battery that I was thinking of using, or perhaps I will add a step-down regulator to take my 4S battery down to 12V (my TX can take between 7-12V).

The FPV battery is a 3S 1300 mAh Hyperion. It's small enough and light enough to not worry about tying into the Hexa power supply and both the Tx and FPV camera run off 12 volts.
