What LiPo to use for CS 3 axis camera gimbal
« on: July 09, 2012, 05:29:36 AM »

Hi everyone,

I will be using the Cinestar 8 frame and the 3 axis camera gimbal which because it rotates 360 degrees has no electrical connections to the main frame. Therefore it will need a separate power source for the servos, video radio link, secondary FC, etc.

What kind of LiPo do you suggest to use for this (3s, 4s, size in terms of mAh).

Thanks
Benji

What ever you choose you will need a RECOM or BEC to step down the voltage for the servos.  they are something like 4.5-6 volts.  Anything higher will fry them.  So a 2s is too high.  Saw this posting on another forum.  Poster said he learned the hard way.

Icamfly,

I have 3 ubecs right now: 5V (HD-SD video converter and fixed camera), 6V (servos), and 12V (video tx).  It would actually be nice if there was a single unit was could give multiple outputs, but I know of none.

So in this case if I had to use a seperate battery I would need a 4S because of the 12V.  As for how many mAh, calculate the total drain, and multiply it by the amount of time needed.  Personally I would go slightly bigger so that I wouldnt need to change it every flight.  Not sure what is the average drain of the servos, but I hear that they can peak at 3A each.

i use 3s 1200mah battery for my gimbal can run your 12v videos and servos i use a av200 dont know the size servos on your cs 3 axis though. but you still need a recom or bec for a to control your FC. I get about 3-4hrs worth per battery
