Hott+
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:33:21 PM »

Is anyone here using the Hott+ version of the 0.86 firmware?

I just downloaded it and hope to try it tomorrow. No more requirement for a laptop at the field for tuning. We now have MKtool on our radio!

I'd like to hear feedback from anyone else who has tried it before I flash the firmware.

Fergus, I could be incorrect but with .86 and the MX-20 you can see the data from the MK stack but I don't think you can write parameter changes.

You are correct regarding the MX20 and official 0.86 firmware. I was referring to the Hott+ firmware produced by MartinW and Metro on the .de site  ;)

I just installed it and see I have access to change most common parameters from mktool as well as the motortest tool and some other cool features all from the MX20.

Firmware flash was a breeze it even retained my original 0.86 settings. Has anyone else used it?

Thanks for pointing this out. Looks very interesting and I am going to give it a go. Being able to tweek settings from the mx20 will be great and I see that you can even adjust the ACC calibration values :o Let us know how you get on with this.

I have played around with it a bit. I haven't tried making changes in the air yet just to be safe but for quickly getting through different parameter settings it is very handy. I did make changes on the ground with motors off.

Here is a little cheat sheet I drew up based on the info in the wiki. I have it saved on my iPhone for easy reference. I need to update some of the abbreviations on it yet. I am still researching.

Here are some screen shots for those interested:

Motor Test

Parameters

There are other features such as CG display and ACC settings. I haven't looked at them fully yet.

Loaded the firmware and have made a few test flights and I must say that it is really useful to be able to tweek settings in flight directly from the MX20 and most importantly being able to get immediate feedback on their effects. I have two birds (a Y6 and an Okto) and I have always had a slight drifting problem with the Okto and was always chasing my tail to try and sort. Tweeked the ACC cailbration in flight and now it is flying very stable with 0 trim!
However I can't seem to locate the centre of gravity settings. Has anyone been able to find and use them yet? Also the panorama trigger settings look interesting but still a bit unsure how to set this up. Anyone have any advice regarding this?

I tried it today and it works well... I didn't try any changes inflight yet but was nice to be able to leave the laptop in the car.
My only comment is that it lags a bit in these particular menus currently. So changing settings wasn't as clean and easy as I'd like for inflight...  or maybe its only me seeing this?

Your right Brad there is some lag. The guys on the .de site are trying to work on it but I think it may be to do with the radio.

I don't think I will risk making changes in flight. I had it out today and got my Alt hold dialled in (Woohoo) but I did notice a couple of things which I need to investigate further.

When we make changes in mktool we have to write them to the boards memory. If we just change a setting now is it saved automatically? The reason I wonder is that when I make changes I have been going to the previous menu screen and pressing SET. The mk then beeps rapidly which I'm thinking indicates it is saving the settings.

Is this what you guys have found?

If not what is the SET button doing on the previous menu  :o

Fergus, yes that is the same way that I am saving changes via the SET buton on the next screen from the main settings page.
